Summoning Salt may be known as the speedrunning community’s foremost historian, but he’s also a world-class Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! player in his own right. Case in point, he recently set another record in the NES classic by becoming the first person to complete the game’s climactic Tyson bout in under two minutes. And it only took a whopping 75,000 attempts over five years.

“The Mike Tyson fight requires an incredible amount of luck and execution,” Salt’s video description explains. “I hit all 21 frame perfect punches (1/60th of a second), hit 10 perfect dodges and ducks, and got luck that has somewhere around a 1/7,000 – 1/10,000 chance of occurring.”

“The fight is broken up into ‘phases,’ with Tyson’s knockdowns marking the end of each phase,” he continues. “I played very well during phases 1 and 2, losing only 5 frames across all 16 dodges/ducks , while hitting all 14 frame perfect punches. Tyson also gave me a perfect pattern with no delays, which is a 1/1600 pattern. I then played perfectly during phase 3, hitting all 7 frame perfect punches, while Tyson gave me a fairly fast but not perfect pattern.”

The tool-assisted speedrun of this fight — which represents a theoretical limit due to its use of emulators to achieve precise inputs and perfect luck — is a little over a second faster. It may not sound like much, but saving those last few frames with slightly cleaner dodging while also getting preferable behavior from Tyson himself should prove to be an even more monumental task.

“I have no plans to ever improve this time,” Salt said. “It will be beaten by somebody one day, likely by matching this fight and then getting better luck in phase 3. I have no interest in competing for that, but am extremely proud to have gotten the first sub 2 ever on Mike Tyson.”

The Super Bowl has more things on stake than you can imagine. Two best teams competing for the Lombardi trophy, an electric half-time show, even the commercials—everything is on the line. And of course, the victor has a shot at football glory. We call it Super Sunday for a reason, after all. For the 2024 season, Doritos decided to increase the stakes even further by bringing back their “Crash the Super Bowl Contest” almost 10 years after its discontinuation.

From 2006 to 2016, in a genius marketing campaign, Doritos invited fans to create their own commercials for a chance to have them aired in their slot live during the Super Bowl. The chance to get their ad featured during one of the most-watched television events in the US is an opportunity most budding creators would not want to miss.

When Frito Lay (their parent company) decided to bring it back for the 2024 season, the campaign became an instant hit. Fans and creators from all around the country submitted their creations, aiming to have them featured in front of millions at Super Bowl LIX. Doritos even roped in NFL legend Patrick Mahomes to market their campaign.

Mike Tyson‘s son Miguel Leon Tyson also took part in the contest when he was featured in an ad titled “Barbershop.” Zack Shenouda and Ryan Robinson, Miguel’s college mates from the University of Southern California, produced and directed the ad. In the ad, a young man gets a haircut but becomes distracted by his barber’s Dorito-laden fingers. The ad featured Tyson Jr. as one of the men getting a haircut. Miguel Tyson was also one of the producers in the ad.

The Doritos panel and fans loved the ad as it made it to the finals of the competition. Mike Tyson himself promoted the trailer asking fans to vote for his son to make his dream come true. However, despite making a very strong case, the ad lost it to another one in the finals.

While Shenouda and Robinson’s creation went to the finals, it was “Abduction” by Dylan Bradshaw and Nate Norell that took home the coveted $1 million prize and bagged the top spot. The ad featured an alien fighting with a hungry earthling over a pack of Doritos. What begins as a tug-of-war between them over the Doritos, ends with the two eventually sharing the snack together.

While almost 80,000 fans at Caesars Superdome, Louisiana enjoyed the winning ad, it was a heartbreaking result for Miguel Tyson and his friends. The whole team had a lot riding on this ad and it took them more than 2 weeks to finish the project. The director duo claimed, “As young artists, we believe we are just as capable of creating content that entertains, sells, and moves people. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to get a step closer to chasing down our dreams.”

Getting their ad played in from of a packed Superdome would have been the perfect platform for the group. Furthermore, the sensational prize money was a cherry on top.

Mike Tyson’s reaction quickly went viral on social media

The year 2024 ended in a very controversial way in the boxing world, Mike Tyson faced Jake Paul in a fight that disappointed many of their loyal followers. Age ended up affecting Mike and he looked very exhausted, while Jake lowered the pace during the fight.

It’s a bittersweet memory for all those fans who grew up watching Mike Tyson fight, but it wasn’t all bad, because they gave us a viral moment on social media and generated many headlines for the authenticity of that event.

We are talking about the tremendous slap that Mike Tyson gave to Jake Paul at the weigh-in of the fight. The elder Paul brother took this process with great humor and when trying to intimidate the boxing legend, he stepped on him, which provoked the ire of ‘Iron Mike’ who without thinking slapped him that turned his cheek to “The Problem Child”.

The event’s security intervened quickly before things got out of hand, Jake Paul grabbed the microphone and warned that everything became ‘personal’.

Mike Tyson breaks the silence

In a chat with ‘The Sean Hannity Show’Mike talked about some details of his return to the ring that few knew, and even asked his wife:

“Why did I do that? ” On a number of issues ranging from Tyson’s health problems to memory loss or his own contractual obligations with the fight,” was the former boxer’s reflection.

About the tremendous slap he gave Jake, his response was very classy and elegant:

“It wasn’t my intention to do it, but he stepped on my foot,” was his blunt message about what happened at the weigh-in

The clip went viral around the world, and that moment definitely helped it become a hit on Netflix. The platform reached an average of 65 million viewers, and there is no doubt that the slap helped to give the fight more visibility.

Many boxing historians consider Mike Tyson to be the hardest puncher to ever step foot between the ropes.

‘Iron Mike’ left a lasting legacy of destruction during his 20-year stint in the paid ranks.

The American boxing icon laid waste to his first 28 opponents and became the youngest heavyweight champion at the age of 20 years, 4 months, and 22 days old by flattening Trevor Berbick in 1986.

Of his 50 career wins (50-7) Tyson finished 44 of them inside the distance, including 24 in the opening stanza.

The heavy-handed New Yorker possessed speed and power in equal measure and had an uncanny ability to work his way on the inside with his peek-a-boo style before unleashing hooks and uppercuts to brutal effect.

Past opponent, Marvis Frazier, summed it up well.

“I threw a jab and I don’t remember anything else,” he told Boxing News.

It is for this reason that Tyson ranks so highly on many people’s list of the biggest hitters in boxing.

Yet when the question was posed to Tyson he humbly conceded the mantle to George Foreman.

“[It’s George Foreman] I can’t match somebody’s power who’s that big and that much man.

“Only my desire to win was natural, I had a great teacher.

“Only you can do that. You’re born with it but somebody has to elicit that.”

‘Big George’ stood at 6ft 3in tall and during the latter stages of his career, tipped the scales at a colossal 260lbs.

Foreman punched his way into the annals of history by becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion of all time at 46 years, 5 months, and 18 days after making a miraculous comeback in the late 80s following a 10-year hiatus from the sport.

A stunning 68 of his 76 wins came via knockout, with Michael Moorer, Gerry Cooney, Ron Lyle, and Joe Frazier (twice) all falling to his legendary power

Ring Magazine ranks Foreman as the No.5 greatest puncher of all time behind Jack Dempsey, Sandy Saddler, Archie Moore and Joe Louis.

Tyson comes in at No.13 on the same list.

Mike Tyson made his opinion of a Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight extremely clear.

The boxing community has been buzzing over the last couple of days since The Ring Magazine announced an agreement is in place for Canelo Alvarez to fight Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in September 2025.

Given that these two boxers have been pound-for-pound greats over the past decade-plus, the thought of how a fight between the two would fare has been common discussion fodder among fight fans for some time.

But there was little hope of this iconic showdown occurring until Turki Alalshikh (the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority) flexed his muscles and made a concerted effort to put it together.

However, while the fight now likely appears to happen, this doesn’t mean every boxing icon is on board with it.

This was made clear when Mike Tyson discussed a potential Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight during a September 2024 episode of the Come And Talk 2 Me Podcast.

“I don’t like that fight,” Tyson said when asked about Crawford calling out Canelo.

“I don’t like that fight. Too much weight [for Crawford]. He had a close fight with [Israil Madrimov] because he was big and really awkward. He shouldn’t have even fought that guy. He should have fought a guy that was coming straight at him.”

– Mike TysonTyson then explained why he believes matchmaking is a lost art in boxing, because fighting styles aren’t necessarily considered when making fights like they once were.

Perhaps Tyson’s sentiment has changed regarding Canelo vs. Crawford since this podcast was recorded. Regardless, we imagine he’ll be glued to the TV when these two greats meet in the ring.
