Rather than stick around to unify the belts and perhaps become undisputed, something he has done in two of his four previous divisions, ‘Bud’ is slated to move up to super-middleweight for the Canelo mega fight.

If those plans fail for whatever reason, Bakhram Murtazaliev is waiting in the wings. The undefeated Russian won the vacant IBF Super-Welterweight World Title in April last year by stopping Jack Culcay in eleven rounds.

His first defence really put him on the map – a three-round destruction of Tim Tszyu. Speaking to Manouk Akopyan, the 32-year-old made it clear that he wanted to collect more belts.

Serena Williams’ childhood coach, Rick Macci, has voiced his strong disapproval regarding the Dallas Mavericks’ recent decision to trade superstar Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers. The shocking move has sent ripples through the basketball community and beyond, drawing backlash from frustrated fans and analysts alike, some of whom took to the streets in protest outside the American Airlines Center.

The Mavericks orchestrated a high-profile trade that saw Doncic, along with teammates Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, make their way to Los Angeles. In exchange, Dallas received star power in Anthony Davis, prospect Max Christie, and a coveted 2029 first-round draft pick. The Utah Jazz also entered the fray, acquiring Jalen Hood-Schifino alongside two second-round picks. This transaction is considered one of the most surprising in NBA history, particularly in light of Doncic’s remarkable achievements, including leading the Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2024 at just 25 years of age

Reacting to the trade, Rick Macci took to social media to express his discontent, labeling the decision as an “epic mistake.” He articulated his feelings clearly, stating, “TRADE….. The action of selling goods services or a Global Iconic Superstar Generational talent in his prime. EPIC MISTAKE… The action of selling goods services or a Global Iconic superstar Generational talent in his prime. Luka Doncic.”

Frances Tiafoe, the World No. 18 and current competitor at the Dallas Open, also chimed in on the unexpected move. In a recent interview clip shared on social media, he shared his surprise over the transaction, expressing sympathy for Mavericks fans. Tiafoe noted that he had envisioned Doncic as a long-term pillar for the franchise, much like Dirk Nowitzki, and lamented the loss, saying, “I thought y’all really had another Dirk that was going to be here for 20 years. European dude, going to bring one to the city. He took us to the final league before we got Kyrie (Irving). Now we got Klay (Thompson) up there. Man, that’s crazy.

Michael Phelps once revealed that Simone Biles’ struggles with “the twisties” had left him “broken hearted” following on from her withdrawal from events at the 2020 Olympics.

Biles, an American icon, now stands boasts a staggering as 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals – making her the most decorated gymnast in history. Her remarkable record is made all the more compelling, with the 27-year-old having faced adversity at points during her career – not least during her time at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Having earned an incredible four gold medals in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, expectations were high for Biles coming into the next Games in the Japanese capital. However, the star from Spring, Texas withdrew from much of the 2020 Olympics – earning two silver medals in the team and floor exercise events.

Her decision to pull out of the vault, uneven bars, floor exercise, and individual all-around competitions in Tokyo came as a result of her battle with “the twisties”. Biles described “the twisties” as the “strangest, weirdest feeling”, explaining that she could simply not “tell up from down” while airborne.

As a result, the storied competitor felt she had no option but to withdraw from a host of events. She explained: “It’s the craziest feeling ever. I don’t think you realize how dangerous this is on hard/competition surface. Nor do I have to explain why I put health first. Physical health is mental health.”

Biles received criticism from some quarters for her call but legendary swimmer Phelps – the most decorated Olympian of all-time – was on hand to defend his compatriot. He later reacted on NBC: “It broke my heart but also, if you look at it, mental health over the last 18 months is something a lot of people are talking about.

Olympic gold: Simone Biles' 'redemption tour' only scratches the surface of her story

“The Olympics is overwhelming. The easiest way for me to say this is athletes, and Olympic athletes in general — we need someone who we can trust, somebody that can let us be ourselves and listen. Allow us to become vulnerable. Somebody who’s not going to try to fix us. We carry a lot of weight on our shoulders, and it’s challenging.”

Biles stated on Instagram that she was “[feeling] the weight of the world on [her] shoulders”, before reinforcing her commitment to putting her “mental health first” as she withdrew from the team event at the Games, saying: “You don’t, then you’re not going to enjoy your sport and you’re not going to succeed as much as you want to.

“So it’s OK sometimes to even sit out the big competitions to focus on yourself, because it shows how strong of a competitor and person that you really are — rather than just battle through it.”

Reflecting on Biles’ decision Phelps praised his fellow Olympian, adding: “We’re human beings. Nobody is perfect. It’s okay to not be okay, to go through ups and downs. The biggest thing is we all need to ask for help. I can say personally it was very challenging. It was hard for me to ask for help. I felt like I was carrying, as Simone said, the weight of the world on my shoulders. It’s a tough situation.”

After her triumphant performances at the summer Games in Paris over the summer as she earned gold medals in the vault, all-around and team events, the American gymnastics hero said of the experience: “There’s such high expectations on me that I’m supposed to win, so whenever I do win or get whatever medal that is, I feel relief off my shoulder like, ‘I did it. I’m done. Let’s move on to the next’.”

Simone Biles started 2024 with one mission: proving she’s not just a gymnast, she’s a living legend. When the Paris Olympics came around, she didn’t just compete—she took over, winning three golds and a silver. While she was at it, she also led the Gold Over America Tour, spreading her magic across the country. Even she was one of the highest-paid female athletes of 2024! No big deal. But is it all? Nope! If you haven’t watched her Netflix documentary Simone Biles: Rising, you’re missing out on the full backstage pass to her flipping, flying, and conquering life’s challenges like she was born in mid-air. With all she’s already done, Simone kicked off 2025 on an even higher note with new achievements.

Well, we know Simone Biles: Rising isn’t just another sports documentary—it’s a front-row seat to the ups, downs, and insane resilience of the greatest gymnast of all time. It dives into everything: the struggles, the mental battles, and the less-glamorous side of gymnastics that most people don’t see. But through it all, Simone does what she does best—she rises.

And let’s not forget her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, who’s the emotional support, standing by her side through all the pressure. If you’re a gymnastics fan (or just love a good comeback story), chances are you’ve already watched it—or, let’s be real, maybe even cried through it. So, does this docuseries deserve an award?

And now, the docuseries just scored a major win of its own. Yes! At the 2025 PGA Awards, Simone Biles: Rising took home the award for Outstanding Sports Program, proving that Simone isn’t just dominating the gymnastics world—she’s taking over Hollywood too. The announcement came at the PGA’s East Coast celebration in New York City, where the docuseries beat out some tough competition, including Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants. Safe to say, Simone just flipped her way past race cars and football players to yet another podium finish. But that’s not all!

Michael Phelps ‘rescued’ Simone Biles at her most difficult moment with a message that was the best help to Jonathan Owens

Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, has long been an advocate for mental health awareness in sports. His words gained even more weight following Simone Biles‘ shocking withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, a moment that sparked a global conversation about the immense pressure on elite athletes.

Biles, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the greatest gymnasts in history, was forced to step away from competition during the women’s team finals due to a mental block known as “the twisties.”

This condition causes gymnasts to lose their sense of awareness in midair, making even the most routine moves extremely dangerous.

After an uncharacteristically shaky vault routine, Biles chose to withdraw, prioritizing her well-being over competition. While many applauded her bravery, others were quick to label her a quitter-a reaction that ignited passionate debates about the mental health struggles of athletes on the world stage.

Phelps, who has openly discussed his own mental health battles, quickly came to Biles‘ defense, calling for greater understanding and support for athletes facing similar struggles.

Phelps’ advice

Speaking to NBC in July 2021, Phelps emphasized how overwhelming the Olympic experience can be and stressed the importance of allowing athletes to be vulnerable without judgment.

“The Olympics is overwhelming. The easiest way for me to say this is athletes, and Olympic athletes in general-we need someone who we can trust, somebody that can let us be ourselves and listen,” Phelps said.

“Allow us to become vulnerable. Somebody who’s not going to try to fix us. We carry a lot of weight on our shoulders, and it’s challenging.”

The 23-time gold medalist understands the struggle firsthand. Over the years, Phelps has spoken about his own battles with depression and anxiety, revealing how he hit rock bottom multiple times.

His struggles even led to multiple DUI arrests before he finally sought professional help and found a way to turn his life around.

Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, boxer and YouTuber Jake Paul has thrown down an unusual challenge to Saquon Barkley.

The Philadelphia Eagles running back, already one of the top players in the NFL, now has an additional incentive to shine on football’s biggest stage: Paul has promised to give him one of his Ferraris if he wins Super Bowl MVP.

While Barkley doesn’t need much motivation, given his incredible talent and the opportunity to prove himself on the Super Bowl stage, Paul’s offer of a luxury sports car is an interesting twist.

Jake Paul's team blamed for not preparing well in boxer's only defeat | Marca

“If you win the Super Bowl MVP, I think you can do it brother … I will give you one of my Ferraris.” Paul declared.

It’s a gesture that underscores Paul’s confidence in Barkley’s abilities while offering a fun, high-stakes reward for an already highly motivated player.

Super Bowl and a birthday bonus for Barkley

This year’s Super Bowl is even more significant for Barkley-it falls on his birthday. Playing for a Lombardi Trophy and celebrating his personal milestone could provide the perfect backdrop for Barkley to cement his legacy.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be taking on the Kansas City Chiefs, and Barkley’s performance could not only change the outcome of the game but also earn him the MVP title that Paul has wagered on.

Despite being a Cleveland Browns fan, Paul and Barkley have a somewhat surprising connection. When mentalist Oz visited the Eagles, Barkley was seen wearing a sweatshirt from Paul’s personal brand, “W”. While their history is limited, Paul’s offer is clearly meant to spur on the Eagles’ star player, fueling the belief that Barkley has the potential to dominate in the Super Bowl.

While the Chiefs are gunning for a three-peat as champions, Saquon Barkley has become a fan favorite across the country, with many rooting for the Eagles to bring the title home. The added motivation from Paul’s offer could be the spark that helps Barkley reach the pinnacle of his career, not just with a Super Bowl win, but with the MVP trophy to go along with it.

As the big game approaches, all eyes will be on Barkley, with fans eagerly anticipating what could be a historic performance-and perhaps a shiny new Ferrari as a reward for his efforts.

The homecoming championship bout for Flint boxer Claressa Shields almost didn’t happen.

Shields, who organized the fight for the undisputed women’s heavyweight championship, tore the labrum in her left shoulder last week, leaving the status of her match against top-ranked contender Danielle Perkins in doubt. After being treated at the UFC treatment center, Shields could not raise her arm for a couple of days last week.

“I really didn’t want to let Flint down,” Shields said Sunday night after the fight. “I couldn’t really use my jab the way that I wanted to but I did the best that I could. I iced it, did therapy, and now I think I may have to have surgery.”

Shields showed no signs of injury inside the ring. After coming out with a show-stopping entrance, featuring a marching band and rapper Papoose, that brought the Flint crowd to their feet at Dort Financial Center, Shields took control of the championship bout early.

FIGHT NIGHT IN FLINT:Claressa Shields vs Danielle Perkins: Shields wins heavyweight women’s title

Primarily relying on constant right hooks and right overhands out of an orthodox stance, Shields danced around the bigger Perkins and stayed out of her longer reach. She used her speed to get inside before letting her right hand free to show off her new power at heavyweight.

She won her first heavyweight fight by technical knockout in July and showed off that power against Perkins through the final round. Perkins had started battling back with stalemates in Rounds 4 and 5, before landing some powerful strikes the next few rounds that damaged Shields’ face. The two kept trading big blows until Shields landed a right hook with less than 20 seconds left to score the fight’s only knockdown, clinching a victory by unanimous decision.

Shields became the first boxer, male or female, to win undisputed titles in three different weight classes, the first female boxer to win an undisputed heavyweight championship and the first American, male or female, to unify the heavyweight crown since 1992.

“That girl was strong as hell,” Shields said, sporting a blackened left eye. “She’s super-strong. She was definitely a problem. My experience and my skills got me over. And listen, I’ve been in plenty of street fights and I had to use some of my skills in that too.”

The packed crowd spent most of the fight on its feet egging on Shields to finish Perkins off. Each time Shields landed a hit, whether it was a clean shot or just brushing Perkins’ arm, the crowd got loud. They also used the temporary breaks in action to chant “whoop that trick” as an ode to one of the songs Shields used to enter the arena.

“Flint is a different type of place, I can tell you that,” Shields said with a wide smile. “Like the people that we have here, they are fight fans for one, they’re so supportive and they just take you for who you are.”

After having her arm raised to name her champion, Shields remained in the ring to take pictures with members of the Flint community, such as Mayor Sheldon Neeley, and anyone who asked for one. As she slowly made her way out of the arena to her locker room, she continued to stop for pictures and autographs for the hometown crowd.

“When I buzzed her in the third round, I think it was the third, and then when I dropped her in the 10th I heard — it was like fireworks going off all over the ring,” Shields said. “It was just crazy. I’ve fought many places, but there is nowhere like fighting in Detroit or fighting in Flint. Fighting up in Detroit or Flint, they got the best fans in the world to me.”

She opted to host the fight night in her hometown rather than New York or Las Vegas, she said, because she wanted to give back to the community that has supported her throughout the journey to 16-0, championships at five weight classes (including the three undisputed) and two Olympic gold medals.

She described it as the “perfect time” to return home due to her biographic movie, “The Fire Inside,” being released in December.

“I knew and wanted to have a historical fight — to fight for the heavyweight undisputed championship and the first woman to ever do it — this is definitely a big moment for me and I’m really excited and I’m happy I was able to bring it back home,” Shields said.

Shields moved up to heavyweight to pursue a championship in her fifth weight class last summer. After accomplishing that in Detroit in July, she decided “it ain’t enough” and returned to fight for the undisputed title in her pursuit to become the greatest boxer ever. So, she wanted to schedule the fight with Perkins, who came in as an avoided heavyweight because of her power.

Despite her left shoulder injury, Shields’ punches had more power thanks to the extra time spent at a heavier weight. Though Perkins’ strength was evident on every punch, Shields was confident she left a mark on each hit too, not just the last hook that dropped her.

“I put her down and let her know like you talking about that stuff like I ain’t got no power,” Shields said. “I’m the only one with power that got power in here. You’re just big and strong.”

Shields’ emotions took over when she was asked about where her pursuit of the “Greatest Of All Time” title stands after the latest championship victory.

“I’m 16-0 — that’s my first time saying that since it happened, 16-0,” Shields said. “Tried to pick up my fourth knockout today. I didn’t, so I’m 16-0 with three knockouts. But I really couldn’t be prouder, and I’m just happy to be advocating for women’s boxing and just pushing the game forward.”

It seems as though Daniel Dubois has moved from the idea of giving Anthony Joshua a rematch.

The 27-year-old is the current IBF world heavyweight champion and he defended that status in emphatic fashion back in September in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley Stadium.

Daniel Dubois Rules Out Anthony Joshua Rematch As He Names His Next 2 Opponents After Parker

In the opposite corner was ‘AJ’, the former two-time world champion who was knocked down at the end of the first round and never really recovered. In the fifth, Joshua threatened to get a foothold in the contest only to be caught on his way in by a short, sharp right hand from Dubois that sent him to the canvas, at which point the referee counted him out.

There was talk of an immediate rematch in the aftermath, though Joshua then decided to bide his time and recover from a few small injuries. For now, Dubois has moved on to a second defence versus Joseph Parker on February 22.

Should Dubois beat Parker, he may well lure current three-belt champion Oleksandr Usyk into an undisputed fight some time later in the year. Meanwhile, Martin Bakole is set to face Efe Ajagba in an IBF final eliminator this May, with the winner becoming Dubois’ mandatory challenger. Fans will welcome Dubois taking both fights and continuing to test himself against the very best as a champion should.

As for Joshua, he had hoped to get a legacy-defining fight with long-time British rival Tyson Fury, but Fury announced his retirement at the start of January, so for now, that one is also up in the air.
