Tyson Fury and Wayne Rooney will co-manage the England team at Soccer Aid’s charity match this summer, with the former heavyweight world champion coming out of retirement

Boxing titan Tyson Fury is set to co-manage the England team alongside former Manchester Unitedstar Wayne Rooney for Soccer Aid’s benevolent match, supporting Unicef’s mission for children.

Rooney, who is 39 and a veteran England marksman, is gearing up to grace the field once again in the annual charity clash. Although he declared his departure from boxing earlier this year, the 36 year old Gypsy King hasn’t ruled out the possibility of strutting his stuff on the pitch during the event.

Speaking with vim and vigor, Fury announced: “Tyson Fury: England manager. Who would ever have thought it?” He continued, “I have had some big fights in my career and the prospect of leading my England team to victory this June fills me with just as much excitement as any heavyweight Fight.

The iconic boxer, an ardent fan of The Red Devils, expressed extra delight for the game’s location: “Everyone knows that I am a huge Manchester United fan too, so it’s even more special for me that the game is at Old Trafford this year – and I get to manage one of my heroes, Wayne Rooney. How can we lose?”

Emphasizing the charitable aspect, he added, “The work Unicef does all around the world is so special and so important. I really hope that you can come along and support us this summer

As one generation comes to a close, another fresh crop of talent is waiting to take its place.

The three kings of this current heavyweight era: Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are entering the twilight of their careers.

Fury is presently retired, Joshua is unlikely to still be boxing by 2027 and Usyk recently admitted he only has two fights left in his illustrious career.

Boxing needs fresh-faced contenders to take the reins from the superstar trio once they inevitably hang up their gloves in the not-so-distant future.

And luckily for fans of the sweet science, there are plenty of exciting prospects who look destined to achieve big things in years to come.

Two-time Olympic champion Bakhodir Jalolov will be a force to be reckoned with if he can translate his glittering amateur career to the pros.

IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois is still only 27 years old and could become the next man to unify the division provided he can beat Joseph Parker on February 22 and then overcome Usyk in a rematch.

Meanwhile, Teremoana Teremoana, Justis Huni, Richard Torrez Jr, Delicious Orie, Martin Bakole, and Agit Kabayel all look poised to make a big impact.

But the man everyone is most excited about, at least on British shores, is 20-year-old Moses Itauma.

The Chatham-based puncher hasn’t put a foot wrong during his perfect 11-0 start in the paid ranks and he’s got the seal of approval from the current king of the glamour division.

When asked by talkSPORT.com who will succeed him as the next undisputed heavyweight champion, Usyk replied: “Moses Itauma, I think is a great fighter.

“Young. 20 years old. I think Itauma has a big future.”

Usyk is not alone in his assessment of Itauma.

Fury has also dubbed Itauma ‘the future of the heavyweight division’ after sparring with him.

The Brit’s explosive all-action style and eye for a knockout have led to comparisons with the great Mike Tyson.

When Itauma turned over as a pro two years ago, he set his sights on breaking ‘Iron Mike’s’ record as the youngest heavyweight world champion of all time (20 years, 4 months, and 22 days old).

However, he is being moved at a far more conservative pace by promoter Frank Warren, which should prove to serve him well in the long run.

Last time out, Itauma blasted fringe contender Demsey McKean away inside the opening round.

Gervonta Davis has left the door wide open for a rematch against former rival Ryan Garcia.

After an entertaining build-up, ‘Tank’ Davis clashed with Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in April 2023 at a catchweight of 136lbs – something Garcia said hindered his performance massively. Albeit a non-title bout, the contest attracted over 1 million pay-per-view buys and a gate of reportedly over $20 million.

Davis pulled off a routine performance to add the first blemish to Garcia’s unbeaten record, dropping him twice on his way to a seventh round stoppage victory. It was the 29th straight professional win for the 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland who has picked up the WBA lightweight title since.

Garcia is currently serving a 1-year suspension from boxing after he tested positive for Ostarine in the lead-up to his bout against Devin Haney last year. The 26-year-old is due to return to the ring in May against Rolando Romero.

Speaking to ES News, ‘Tank’ discussed a potential rematch with Garcia and he outlined the one condition for it to take place.
