The former WTA No. 1 was ready for a well-deserved vacation after dazzling at halftime of the Super Bowl.

Serena Williams was ready for some well-earned relaxation after her surprise cameo at the Super Bowl halftime show, where she stormed the stage during Kendrick Lamar’s performance, setting social media on fire. But her much-anticipated girls’ trip took an unfortunate twist-leaving the tennis icon battling illness instead of basking in the sun.

Williams initially appeared to be living her best life, sharing a sun-kissed snap from her getaway, draped in a chic green-and-white bikini top with matching accessories. “Unfiltered untouched magic at magic hour #girlstrip,” she captioned.

An untimely illness ruined Serena Williams' vacation.

However, just as her fans envied her vacation glow, she hit them with an unexpected update: she had been sick the entire time! Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “Girls trip and sick the entire time?”-a sentiment anyone who’s had their holiday plans derailed could relate to.

Serena does not let health problems defeat her

Despite the setback, Serena remains the definition of resilience. The 43-year-old has faced her fair share of health struggles over the years-from a pulmonary embolism in 2011 to childbirth complications in 2017 and even undergoing surgery to remove a large cyst in 2024.

Yet, she continues to power through life’s challenges with the same determination that made her a 23-time Grand Slam champion. Williams has long been vocal about the difficulties of balancing work, motherhood, and personal time.

Serena is synonymous with resilience

Even after stepping away from professional tennis, she admits the juggling act hasn’t gotten any easier. But her mantra remains the same: “Resilience is something that you kind of just have to stand up and do.”

Whether she’s dominating on the court, expanding her business empire, or dealing with an unexpected vacation disaster, Serena Williams never backs down. Even a ruined girls’ trip won’t keep her down for long!

The 17-year-old is a promising golfer and has a “verbal commitment” with the University of Miami.

Eagle eyed golf fans may have noticed that Tiger Woods was spotted with Kai Trump this weekend ahead of the final round of the Genesis Invitational in San Diego.

Before heading to the range, Woods was seen in the parking lot with was the teenage Trump, Donald Trump’s granddaughter. Woods himself recently played a round of golf with the new US President.

It’s no secret that Trump loves golf, and this is a trend that appears it runs in the family, with granddaughter Kai revealing she has verbally committed to playing college golf at the University of Miami.

Who is Kai Trump?

The 17-year-old is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and ex-wife Vanessa, and is about to go into her junior at the Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida. But she already has a fair idea of what she’d like to do with her life in the future.

The fact the teenager’s personal Instagram account is called ‘kaitrumpgolfer’ says it all and recently she broke the news that she was “beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami”.

Although she doesn’t share the nature of her scholarship, she has been tipped to have a future in the sport and her line of thanks to her grandfather suggests that is the avenue she will be going down: “I would like to thank my Grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support”.

Kai vs Donald on the golf course

Despite her tender years, Kai has already won the ladies’ club championship at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, one of 17 her grandfather owns worldwide. It was recently revealed that Trump Turnberry in Scotland would have the highest green fees anywhere in the world (£1000 / $1296 before 1pm) from 2025 onwards.

In a video with YouTube personality Grant Horvat last month, Kai claimed the Republican candidate for the 2024 US presidential election “always gives me a run for my money” and “wins a lot of the time” when they play against each other.

How good is Donald Trump at golf?

Before Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, the subject of golf handicaps came up in a debate with Trump.

USGA records show Trump is a 2.5 handicap golfer, making him supremely gifted on the course.

Many of the world’s top golfers, including Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer on the men’s side, and Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa on the women’s, played college golf before turning professional.
